On Presentations of L2 Content Words and Their Conceptual Representations

Sun Lan Department of foreign languages,University of Science and Technology of China,Hefei Anhui 230026
The present paper explores the relation between presentation of L2 content words and their conceptual representations.Based on the hypothesis that L2 learning is a conscious process, with attention to playing a crucial role in every aspect of L2 learning,it is assumed that L2 lexical acquisi- tion also entails human cognitive ability.Having followed up a subject for three years, during which we have closely studied the way the subject used the target word in relation to the way we presented it,we maintain that there be direct correlation between the L2 presentation and its conceptual repre- sentation, the former being determinative and that L2 words are conceptually represented either di- rectly or indirectly via their L1 counterparts. And it is also noted that the presentation of L2 words in- fluences the extent to which learners master L2 target words.
