On Semantic Relationships of the Predicate Construction of Ancient Chinese in Terms of Ancient Annotations on Chinese Classics and Its Issues Researched upon at Present

The present paper discusses the semantic relationships of verb-noun (V-N)patterns in the predicate construction analyzed in the books annotating Chinese classics appeared from the Han Dynasty to the Yuna Dynasty, so as to demonstrate the complicatedness and multiplicity of the semantic relationships of verb-noun(V-N)and adverb-verb(Adv-V) patterns and the signification of the noun used as the predicate and the predicate verb in ancient Chinese, and the relevant issues researched upon currently; and so as to explain as well the reason why Chen Chengze names only the “causative” and the “notional” relationships among the multiple semantic relationships of the verb-noun(V-N)patterns.
