A Syntactic Analysis of the Speech Act Domain(言域):Evidence from Sin(先)in Cantonese

Sze-Wing Tang Department of Chinese Language and Literature, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, New Territories Hong Kong
Liu (2008) argues that the postverbal element sin(先) in Cantonese can be analyzed as a particle of the "uttering domain", being derived from the "content domain", along the lines in Sweetser (1990) and Shen (2003). In this paper, we further explore the grammatical properties of the postverbal element sin that belongs to the speech act domain(言域) and its syntactic position.
