Experimental study n induced heat stroke in rabbits

In order to study the rule of pathogenesis of heat stroke,34 conscious rabbitswere exposed to heat environment to raise and mainta in their rectal temperature(Tr)at42.0℃ 42.5℃、43.0℃、43.5℃and over 43.5℃respectively.Within 180 min afterreaching the predeterminate levels, no signs of heat stroke was observed in rabbits with Tr42.0 ℃ ;half of the rabbits with Tr 42.5 ℃ and all with Tr 43.0℃or over Tr 43.0℃wentinto shock and eventually died.The fact that the higher the body temperature,theshorter the shock latency and survival time, was found between Tr 42.5℃and 43.5℃。The coneentrations df serum K+,glutamic oxaloaeetic transaminase,lactate dehydrogenaseand creatine phosphokinase were significantly increased in shock rabbits,The amplitude ofEC0G was obviously depressed,and the respiratory peak frequency started to decrease inthe rabbits whose Tr were over 42.5℃,showed sign of the brain damage. The results sug-gested that Tr 42.5℃is the critical level of body temperature to induce heat stro ke in rab-bits.The rabbits with Tr 43.0℃or Tr 43.5℃can be used as an animal model for theinvestigation of heat stroke.
