STUDY ON SEISMIC RESPONSE CONTROL OF AN ARCH BRIDGE WITH VISCOUS DAMPERS

Based on modern control theory,seismic response simulation of an arch bridge with viscous dampers,which is looked as a control system,is carried out with SIMULINK toolbox of MATLAB in order to determine damping parameters for viscous dampers and to investigate the passive control performance in seismic protection of long-span arch bridge.The Maxwell model is used as the computation model for viscous dampers,and numerous calculations are done for the damper-added arch bridge to determine the optimal values of damping coefficient and velocity exponent.The analysis results validate that the responses of the arch bridge are minimum when the values of velocity exponent are 0.6~0.9.Simulation results show that the passive control system with viscous dampers is beneficial for reducing the seismic response of the arch bridge.
