STUDY ON A GENERALIZED MODEL UPDATING METHOD FOR OFFSHORE PLATFORMS

For generalized model updating problems of jacket-type offshore platforms,a method that updates modal shapes first and updates modal frequencies subsequently for their finite element(FE) model is presented.The updating process is achieved as follows: firstly,the elements that have stiffness discrepancies between the experimental model and the initial FE model are identified by using a damage detection method,then updating the modal shapes for the FE(model) is performed by iterative operations;secondly,regarding the foundation as three-dimensional elastic supports and designing them by an optimization method,updating the modal frequencies for the FE model is implemented.The model updating method is proved to be feasible by employing a model test of an offshore platform based on hammer excitation.And it provides a basis for damage detection and safety evaluation of offshore platforms in long-term service and without measurement of the baseline structure.
