STRUCTURAL IDENTIFICATION OF THE REINFORCED CONCRETE FRAME BY HILBERT-HUANG TRANSFORM

The Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT) method is a newly developed data analyzing method,which consists of mainly the empirical mode decomposition(EMD) and the Hilbert transform(HT).The possibility of using the HHT method is explored to identify the structural system by using measured free vibration time history.Based on a single measurement at one appropriate location,natural frequencies and damping ratios can be identified.When the responses at the directions of all degrees of freedom are measured,the mode shapes and the stiffness and damping matrices of the structure can be determined.Impulse excitation tests on a four-stories reinforced concrete frame model were conducted.The natural frequencies,damping ratios and mode shapes of the model are identified and the stiffness and damping matrices are calculated.From the results of stiffness matrix estimation,it is shown that the condensated pole-story model considering the rotating of joints of frame can best reflect the vibration of reinforced concrete frame model.It is also shown that the damping ratios of the frame model are time variant when the initial amplitude is large enough.The damping ratios decrease with the decrease of vibration amplitude.
