Field measurement and analysis of ground vibration in the throat area of metro depot

Field measurements were carried out at Xiajiao Metro Depot of Guangzhou Metro Line 3 subjected to moving trains on the straight section and curved section of throat area. The propagation of ground vibration acceleration induced by metro trains passing the throat area was investigated in the domains of time and frequency. The conclusion is that the ground vertical vibration acceleration level is 72 ~ 95 d B during trains running on straight section in the region of35 m from the train running track,while the ground horizontal vibration acceleration level is 62 ~ 95 d B. The vertical vibration is stronger than the horizontal vibration slightly. However,during trains running on curved section in the region of 25 m from the train running track the ground horizontal vibration acceleration level is 80 ~ 98 d B and is stronger than the ground vertical vibration acceleration level which is 70 ~ 98 d B. The horizontal vibration and vertical vibration should be simultaneously considered in the evaluation of environmental vibration near the throat area of metro depot. The attenuation rate of the medium-high frequency vibration is larger than that of the low frequency vibration,and the main frequency of vibration transmitting to adjacent buildings is mainly within 4 ~ 60 Hz. It is suggested that low and medium frequency vibration should be primarily taken into account in the vibration mitigation measure for metro depot. The open trench which is used for drainage along the direction of the track can reduce the vibration.
