An experimental study on shaking table test of a combined mass damper

A combined mass damper( CMD) was put forward based on the joint vibration reduction effect of tuned liquid and colliding particles. A series of shaking table tests was designed,in order to investigate the dynamic response of a single-degree-of-freedom bent frame structure with or without the damper( CMD,TMD and TLD are tested respectively)under three different kinds of earthquake waves and test the vibration reduction performance of CMD. It is shown that the vibration reduction performance of CMD is basically better than the traditional dampers no matter peak acceleration attenuation rate or root-mean-square acceleration attenuation rate. The vibration reduction effect of traditional dampers is sensitive to the characteristics of earthquake wave,while CMD is effective in the whole frequency band especially in low frequency. Also,the vibration reduction effect of CMD is not sensitive to the variety of the amplitude of earthquake waves,which means the system has good robustness.
