Influence of port timing on work process of air-powered engine

The intake type of air-powered engine is one of the key technologies for its utility. In order to find a more effective intake type, the work process of air-powered engine using circumrotating valve was studied. A theory model of indicator diagram of work was made,which could forecast the changing trend of the pressure in cylinder in the course of intake and work. The influence of porting timing on the work process was studied by experiments, and the reasons for the loss of power were discussed. As a result, for the same intake pressure, the air-powered engine can attain the maximum power output when the intake process begins at the top dead point. With decreased intake time, the power and economic performances degenerated.
