Dynamic analyses of pipes in saturated soil under traffic loads

Numerical procedures were adopted for dynamic analyses of pipes in saturated soil by the u-p scheme finite elements.Inertia forces,fluid-soil coupling and soil-pipe interaction were considered in the finite-element dynamic equations derived using the Galerkin discrete method and Newmark-β method in the governing equations.An Absorbing boundary condition was introduced to simulate horizontal infinite soil region by finite elements.To solve the stabilization problem,soil elements were considered as consisting of soil skeleton displacements freedoms and linear pore pressure freedoms.The results show that the soil region surrounding the pipes has larger pore pressure which is notably affected by the soil permeability and drainage boundary condition;The vehicle velocity influences the amplitude and frequency of the pipe's vibration.The rise and dissipation of the pore pressure can be used to evaluate the mechanics of pipes and the settlement of the pavement.
