Design method of shear connector in steel column base

XIAO Nan,HE Liang(College of Civil Engineering and Architecture,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China)  
The synergistic effects between shear connector and concrete in steel column base were considered for determination of shear connector length.Based on the Timoshenko beam theory,two differential equations for calculating the shear connector length were deduced considering linear and nonlinear concrete stress-strain relationships respectively.The differential equation of the nonlinear model was simplified into an algebraic equation by the Galerkin method,and design tables for rapid determination of the shear connector length were set up by numerical calculation.The analytical results showed that the shear connector length with linear model is shorter than that of nonlinear model and unsafe in practice.The determination of the shear connector length mainly depends on its effective inertial radius,the inertial moment reflecting the shear connector-to-concrete stiffness ratio,and the magnitude of the shear force in column base.
