Two-stage atomizing high pressure water mist spray head for fire suppression

A new kind of two-stage atomizing high pressure spray head for fire suppression was developed to solve the problem caused by the small spray protecting diameter of the spray head.The flux and Sauter mean diameter dsauter were computed.The spray density distribution on the ground of the spray head was measured and the data were compared with those of three other different types of spray heads.Portable anemoscope was used to get the spray velocity and dsauter was verified with laser phase Doppler particle anemometer(PDPA).Considering different locations of the fire,a series of fire suppression tests on Class-2B pool fire were carried out with the developed spray head while the dimensional temperature fields were measured.Results showed that the spray head can generate mist whose dsauter is less than 250 μm.The spray protection radius is 2 m and high fire protection performance is obtained within a radius of 0~1.5 m.
