Experimental study on self-calibration technique of deep-sea pH exploration electrode

pH exploration electrodes need to be self-calibrated in the seafloor in order to implement long-time in-situ pH exploration for the deep-sea hydrothermal fluid.A method was presented using two buffers to on-line calibrate pH electrodes,and a 10 mL probe chamber was designed.Fluent software was used to simulate and calculate the main structure parameters of the chamber to ensure a kind of liquid in the chamber be replaced by another kind of liquid completely.The simulation indicates that the whole flow is relatively ideal and the circumfluence is reduced with entrance half-angle of 37° and length-width ratio of 1.5.A fluid control system which using two buffers to execute the calibration was designed to implement self-calibration function.Using the fluid control system,the rinsing effects of two buffers whose pH values were 4.003 and 6.864 respectively were tested in the probe chamber.The results show that the reciprocal rinsing processes of the two buffers can both be completed within 6 min,thus the rinsing device is validated to be practical.
