Electric field intensity calculation of unipolar high voltage direct current transmission lines

Sarma method was improved by introducing bundled conductors and then used to calculate the electric field intensity generated by unipolar high voltage direct current(HVDC) transmission lines,and the influences of configuration parameters were also analyzed.The electric field intensity attenuates rapidly with the increasing distance from the polar line,and the maximum electric field intensity is at the projection of the transmission line.The sub-conductor radius and the transmission line height substantially influence the electric field intensity.The larger the sub-conductor radius is,the weaker the electric field intensity is;and the higher the transmission line is,the weaker the electric field intensity is.The layout and the spacing of sub-conductors have less influence on the electric field intensity.With different sub-conductor radius,the maximum electric field intensity increases nearly linearly with the applied voltage. With different transmission line height,the maximum electric field intensity has a nonlinear relationship with the applied voltage.The analysis results of the finite-element method(FEM) agree well with that of the above analytical method.
