A Reappraisal of Xue Fucheng and the Negotiations of the Boundary of China's Yunnan Province and Burma
Zhu Zhaohua
In 1894, Xue Fucheng negotiated and signed the Supplementary Clauses on Border and Trade Affairs between China's Yunnan Province and Burma with Britain. This treaty, which people have evaluated differently for a long time, deals with an important issue transacted by Xue Fucheng when he was China's minister in Britain. This article suggests that recently, the treaty has received a fair and pertinent reappraisal in historiographical circles, but it is still necessary to make further studies of some issues. This paper, which is based on the results of new research, provides a fresh examination of the treaty.
