Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of total hip arthroplasty in elderly patients. Methods A total of 35 elderly patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty in a Hospital during the period of January 2010 and September2013 were selected as the research subjects. The perioperative period, time of operation, blood loss, and other perioperative indexes of all patients were statistically analyzed. All patients were followed up for more than June after the operation. The hip joint Harris scale was used to evaluate the hip function before and after treatment. As the Harris score ≥75 points a good index for judging the curative effect, the factors affecting the short-term effect oftotal hip arthroplasty in elderly patients were compared and analyzed. Results 6 months before and after surgery,1 months after operation, total hip arthroplasty in patients with hip joint pain Harris score(F=15.3577,P=0.0000),joint function(F=12.1954,P=0.0000),joint deformity(F=9.6588,P=0.0000),activity(F=11.2913,P=0.000)score difference etc.The 4 dimensions were statistically significant, and there was statistical significance between the time points in each dimension score(P 0.05).The single factor analysis showed that there was significant difference between the different operation time, the surgical approach, the blood loss and the good rate of the BMD patients(P0.05).Multiple regression analysis showed that surgical approach, blood loss and BMD were the main factors affecting the short-term curative effect of total hip arthroplasty. Conclusion Total hip arthroplasty is effective in elderly patients.Minimally invasive approach, reduction of operative blood loss and periprosthetic bone mineral density are the main factors to ensure the short-term efficacy of total hip arthroplasty.
