A NEW APPROACH ON DETECTING THE SINGLE-TO GROUND FAULT LOCATION ON POWER SYSTEM WITH NEUTRAL UNEARTHED

The single-phase grounding fault frequently occurs in neutral ungrounded system,the faulted location must be found as soon as possible to avoid a phase-to-phase short.On the basis of the characteristics of zero-sequence voltage and current at backward faulted branch,forward faulted branch and normal branch,this article analyses the fifth harmonic's amplitude and phase relation between the electric field and the magnetic field at the above-mentioned three kinds of branches.The conclusion is,the amplitude of the electric field and the magnetic field become higher at the faulted branch,the phase of the magnetic field lead that of the electric field at the normal branch and the forward faulted branch,but a contrary phenomenon happens at the backward faulted branch.Therefor,a new method is raised using fifth harmonic of electric field and the magnetic field to detect faulted location.
