LIU Yue, JIANG Yue-rong,YIN Hui-jun ,CHEN Ke-ji (Laboratory of Cardiovascular Medicine, Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100091, China)
Gelsolin is a Ca2+-regulated actin filament severing, capping and nucleating protein found in many cell types which involved in various cellular processes, including regulation of actin dynamics, cell motility, control of apoptosis and celluar signal transduction. More recent data show that gelsolin is closely bound up with many diseases and pathological processes. Here we review the functions of gelsolin, and their manifold impacts on cardiovascular diseases, such as platelet activation, coronary heart diseases, cardiac failure, and atrial fibrillation, which may as a new potential biomarker and/or therapeutic target.
