Molecular Mechanisms of Vascular Injury by Human Cytomegalovirus

There has been more and more results from both in vitro and clinical researches indicating the relativity between vascular injury and human cytomegalovirus infection. This mini review elaborated primarily several possible molecular mechanisms of vascular injury by human cytomegalovirus, such as oxidative stress, signal transduction, and immune inflammation. Virus interacts with its host through these mechanisms, involving many factors and cells, leading to pathological changes of vascular structure and function by influencing the survival, proliferation and apoptosis of vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells, which finally causes the development of various cardiovascular diseases.
