Viscoelastic-viscoplastic Damage Constitutive Model Based on Thermodynamics for Asphalt Mixtures

In order to find out the mechanical behavior of asphalt mixtures,a viscoelastic-viscoplastic damage constitutive model for asphalt mixtures was derived based on the irreversible thermodynamics theory.The developed model was applied to analyze triaxial creep tests and constant strain rate compressive tests on asphalt mixtures.The results show that the model can reasonably describe the three stages of creep tests,and accurately reveal the three-dimensional deformation characteristics;the deformation behavior of asphalt mixtures can be analyzed mechanically using the constitutive model;this model can also effectively predict the stress-strain relation,the peak stress value and the development of volumetric deformation in constant strain rate compressive tests.It is indicated that the constitutive model can reveal the mechanical behavior of asphalt mixtures under various compressive loading conditions.
