Production of Ammonia and Its Effect on Health and Production Performance of Broiler Chickens

Ammonia is a colorless, pungent, noxious gas which has a strong stimulating effect on the respiratory mucosa and cornea of broilers. Ammonia is the most harmful of many harmful gases in the poultry house, and ammonia stimulus can not only lead to a variety of respiratory diseases in poultry, but also result in an increase in the occurrence of broiler ascites syndrome and its incidence, severely reduces production performance, high concentration of ammonia could also cause poisoning and even death. This article reviewed production of ammonia and the effects of ammonia on health, behavior, production performance, blood biochemistry, immune function, endocrine, meat quality and antioxidant properties of broilers.
