Effect of Rice-duck Ecosystem on Production Performance and Blood Biochemical Indices of Zongyang Mei Duck

In order to study the effect of rice-duck ecosystem on the production performance and blood biochemical indices of Zongyang Mei Duck, a total of 2 400 Zongyang Mei Duck at 28 days of age bred in the same batch incubation,with the same rearing conditions and similar body weight were randomly selected and divided into 2 groups, consisting of rice-duck ecosystem and fenced-in rearing system(control), respectively. The experiment lasted for 56 days. The results showed that the body weight at 8th, 10th and 12th week of Zongyang Mei Duck in rice-duck ecosystem group were significantly greater than that of fenced-in rearing system(P0.05), respectively. The average daily feed consumption of rice-duck ecosystem group was 75.70 g per duck, which was lower than that of fenced-in rearing system(147.88 g per duck) during the experimental period(P0.05). The values of body slope length, pelvis width, shank circumference,slaughter weight, percentage of breast muscle and percentage of lean meat of Zongyang Mei Duck in rice-duck ecosystem group were significantly greater than those of fenced-in rearing system(P0.05), respectively. The serum total cholesterol,alkaline phosphatase, usea nitrogen and triiodothyronine contents in rice-duck ecosystem group were significantly lower than those of fenced-in rearing system(P0.05), respectively. However, the serum triglyceride and thyroxine contents were higher than those of fenced-in rearing system(P0.05). In a conclusion, Zongyang Mei Duck was suitable for the pattern of rice-duck ecosystem in which the production performance was better and the feed consumption was lower.
