Measurement and Numerical Simulation of Residual Stresses in Ceramics/metal Brazed Joints

The residual stresses in ceramics/metal joints were measured by micro-zone X-ray diffraction (XRD). Residual stresses were also calculated by thermal -elastic-plastic finite element method. During the computation, interface reaction layer and the influences of temperature on the material's properties were taken into account. The results show that the stress distributions obtained by FEM analysis and X-ray stress measurement have the same changing trends and the highest tensile stress occurs at the outer surfaces of the ceramic near the welding interfaces. The results of measurement also indicate that when the filler metals are thick,the residual stresses are high.
