Grinding Path Calculation for the CNC Grinding Machine for a Radome

For the sake of measuring and precision grinding of the inner surface of a radome made of hard and brittle material with complicated shape, a new type of CNC grinding machine for the radome was developed. The machining process is performed by using the electroplated spheric shape diamond grinding wheel according to the obtained discrete data of the inner surface and the required grinding allowance at any point after complicated data processing and under computer control. A tool-path determining method with regard to the characteristic and the machining requirements of inner surface of the radome was proposed. Using this method the required accuracy as well as high machining efficiency is reached, which enables the radome to meet the design performance requirements.
