Experimental Research on Digital Spotting Head for Microarrays

Uniform discretization and injection of microfluid have been realized by means of low frequency vibration of the piezoelectric ceramic actuators.The spotting system responds to each driving impulse(1Hz~10Hz) and can be controlled digitally.As surface hydrophobization to the micro-nozzle has eliminated the spontaneous flowing of the microfluid in the micro-nozzle due to surface wetting effect , the volumes of each injection droplet are controllable and uniform.It has been proved that micro-vibration is an aid to eliminate micro-nozzle blockage from micro-particles and enhances reliability of the digital spotting head.Working frequency of piezoelectric ceramic actuators has a remarkable effects on the size of droplets.Micro-injection of a few of pico litres has been realized through changing working frequency and size of the micro-nozzle.
