Design and Electromechanical Coupling Characteristics of Bionic Flapping Mechanism

This paper studied a micro flapping mechanism that was based upon insect thorax and actuated by electrostatic force according to the flapping flying theory of insects. Firstly, nonlinear dynamic model of the electromechanical coupling system was set up according to physical model of the flapping mechanism. The dynamic response of the system in constant voltage was studied by numerical method. Then the effects of damping and initial condition on system dynamic characteristics were analyzed in phase space. In addition,dynamic responses of the system in sine voltage excitation were discussed. The research results are helpful to the design, fabrication and application of the micro flapping mechanism of flapping-wing micro air vehicle(FMAV), and also to other micro electromechanical system that actuated by electrostatic force.
