Mechanism Design and Optimization of Self-centering Steady Rest Used in Grinding Machine

A prototype of self-centering steady rest for grinding machine was designed;the parameter combinations of steady rest and parametric model of translational cam were established.Optimization design goal and optimization function were presented by combining screening of design parameters.The optimization calculation program in MATLAB was accomplished.Two parameters of the translational cam were optimized based on guaranteeing transmission performance,clamping stability and especially clamping accuracy.So,a complete solution for high accuracy-centering steady rest design was provided.
