The change of plasma concentration of nitrite and nitrate during exercise and recovery in healthy mid-age people

Objective: To probe the changes of plasma nitrite oxide and involving factors during acute maximal treadmill exercise and recovery in healthy mid-age people. Method:Forty nine healthy mid-aged volunteers were recruited. The blood samples from the brachial venous at rest, immediately after the onset of symptom-limited maximal treadmill exercise, and 30 minutes after stopping exercise were collected. The nitrite was oxidized to nitrate and the total amount of plasma NO end products(NOx,Nitrite+nitrate) was calculated. We compared the changes of plasma NOx at three different points and analyzed the involving factors. Result: The plasma basal concentrates of NOx before exercise was 44.42±23.34μmolL, which correlated positively with plasma triglycerin. The plasma NOx immediately after peak exercise, the mean value was 68.86±29.45μmolL which increased significantly 1.86±0.95 folds comparing with the baseline(t=9.621,P=0.000), and correlated positively with total exercise time or workload(r=0.307,P=0.032). 30 minutes recovery after exercise, about half of volunteers maintained similar NOx level of peak exercise, though the group A had higher level of NOx of 119.12±36.87μmolL and the group B had 37.51±24.98μmolL, which was similar to the baseline level. After Comparing A and B group, we found that the basal concentrate of NOx of group A was higher than group B(t=2.136,P=0.04), which may indicate that people with lower basal NOx could not maintain high level of NOx concentration after acute maximal exercise.Conclusion:In healthy mid-aged people, the plasma NOx concentration increases after acute maximal exercise, and the increased multiples positively completed with total exercise time or workload. Some people have similar or higher NOx concentration during recovery compared to peak exercise, and some person in the contrary which may imply that two groups had different endothelial function.
