Agglomeration and Innovation of High-tech Industry:Threshold Effect Based on Patent Protection

According to the consumer utility function and Starkberger model,this paper establishes the theoretical connection between industrial agglomeration,patent protection and different modes of innovation.On this basis,the threshold model is used to verify the role played by patent protection in affecting the relationship between the agglomeration and innovation of high-tech industry in different regions.The empirical results show that for areas mainly relying on independent innovation,high-tech industry agglomeration can effectively promote innovation only when the degree of patent protection is high;for areas where independent and imitate innovation coexist,high-tech industry agglomeration has always played a positive role in promoting innovation,and when the degree of patent protection is higher,the promotion effect is greater;for areas that mainly rely on imitate innovation,high-tech industry agglomeration can effectively promote innovation only when the degree of patent protection is low.Finally,this paper combines the research results with the actual situation,and puts forward the countermeasures that should be paid attention to in the development of high-tech industry.
