Breeding of the New Ramie Cultivar Ganzhu 4

Ganzhu 4,a new ramie cultivar bred from the seed progeny of Xiang zh u 2(the original code 93-24),yielded raw fiber 2556.6kg/hm2,15.5%more than that of the control cultivar Xiangzhu 2 in the national regional test,with sing le fiber fineness 1825m/g and fiber intensity 59.95CN in average of three cuttin gs in a year.In the varietal trial,the new cultivar yielded raw fiber 2903.1kg /hm2,33.5%more than that of Xiangzhu 3,with single fiber fineness 2012m/g and fiber intensity 29.2CN.Ganzhu 4 yielded raw fiber 2478kg/hm2 in mean yield of the second and third year in the performance test,13.9%more than that of Ganzh u 3.The new cultivar is middle-rooted and clustered,lodging-resistant,highl y resistant to ramie mosaic,anthracnose and root lesion nematode diseases,show ing a bit late ripening quality and having the whole growth duration about 195 d ays for the three cuttings in a year.This new cultivar was approved in Dec.200 5,by the Chinese Committee of Cultivar Identification for Bast Fiber Crops.
