Biodegradability of Typical Dyes Used in Tanneries

Zhang Wenjun,Sun Danhong,Shi Bi(The Key Laboratory of Leather Chemistry and Engineering of Ministry of Education,Sichuan University,Chengdu 610065,China)  
The biodegradability of the dyes under tannery activated sludge was evaluated based on the determinations of respiration curve of the activated sludge,BOD5,COD and BOD5/COD.The results indicate that the dyes can be adsorbed by activated sludge,leading to remarkable reduce of COD value.But all the dyes are hard biodegraded although they have no considerable inhibitory effect on microoganisms of activated sludge.
