SUSTAINABLE UTILIZATION MEASURES OF GROUNDWATER RESOURCES IN KARST AREAS OF SOUTHWEST CHINA

XIA Ri-yuan TANG Jian-sheng ZHUYuan-feng (Institute of Karst Geology, CAGS, Guilin Guangxi 541004, China)  
The paper analyzed the characteristics of groundwater resources in southwest karst areas and put forward 4 sustainable utilization measures: a. Extracting groundwater by digging wells and drilling holes, and developing efficient irrigation and agriculture in peak forest plain areas. b. Exploiting underground rivers by blocking up caverns and channeling water into fields, building power stations at different levels and developing courtyard economy in karst dome-depression areas. c. Constructing water tanks, accommodating and storing up water at epi-karst zones and developing ecological economy in peak cluster-hilly areas. d. Blocking up caverns to store up and jointly controlling water resources, developing grain and fruit bases in down-faulted basin areas.
