Investigation and Research Report on Soil and Water Conservation Ecological Environment Construction in Ningxia

Being the province of the least water resources in China, Ningxia is of average annual precipitation of 305 mm, the possible water for cultivated land is 990 m 3/hm 2, and water resource per capita is only 228 m 3. There is severe soil and water loss in the province with soil loss area making up to 75% of total area and soil erosion modulus from 1 000 to 10 000 t/km 2 in water erosion regions. In the current soil and water conservation and ecological environment construction, attention must be paid on combination of theory with practice and summary of break through in small watershed comprehensive harness and development. Scientific distribution and rational utilization of surface runoff should be taken as the core for small watershed management and development as well as the basis for optimal allocation of treatments. The core for small watershed economy development is to enhance the production rate on managed land in all possible ways.
