The Role of Stress in the Tendonization of Human Hair Artificial Tendon

Objective To investigate the role of stress in the tendonization of HHAT. Methods The rabbits were divided into two groups at random. In the experimental group, the HHAT was used to connect the two ends of the cut Achilles tendon. In the control group, HHAT was placed in the dorsal muscle of the rabbit. Pathological changes and mechanic properties of HHAT were observed respectively. Results In the experimental group, with the role of the stress, the fibroblasts were induced to proliferate and excrete collagen fibers and form a collagen sheath around the HHAT. In the meantime, HHAT degradated step by step. At last ,HHAT was replaced by collagen tissue. In the control group,without the role of stress, the maximum load and the tensile strength of HHAT in muscle decreased. Finally, HHAT was absorbed completely. Conclusion HHAT could degradated and be absorbed compeletly. The stress was an important factor in the process of tendonization.
