HAEMAGGLUTINATION BY THE BACTEROIDES FRAGILIS GROUP
Wu Shaoguang et al. Institute of Epidemiology & Microbiology Chinese Academy of preventive Medicine Beijing, 102206
The haemagglutination activity among pathogenic and non-pathogenic Bacteroides fragilis strains is different. 9 strains from clinic samples and NCTC 9343 showed haemagglutination ability (HA), but only one among 10 strains from feces of healthy donors showed very weak HA ability. So the HA ability of B. fragilis may contribute to its pathogenicity.
