Epidermal growth factor receptor gene mutation and its relationship with clinical pathologic characteristics of non small cell lung cancer

Objective To investigate the epidermal growth factor receptor( EGFR) gene mutation and its clinical pathological relationship with non small cell lung cancer( NSCLC). Methods 159 samples of NSCLC tissue in our hospital from 2010 January to 2014 January were collected. The EGFR gene mutation was detected by DNA sequencing,and its relationship with clinical pathology of NSCLC was analyzed. Results The detection rate of EGFR gene mutation was 12. 6%( 20 /159),mainly including the absence of exon 19 and the point mutation in exon21. The detection rate of mutation in female patients was higher than in male patients( P 0. 01). The mutation rates in adenocarcinoma and bronchioloalveolar carcinoma patients were higher than in those with other histological types of lung cancer( P 0. 01). The detection rate of gene mutation in patients with high differentiation was higher than in those with middle and low differentiations( P 0. 05). Mutation of EGFR gene was not associated with age and lymph node metastasis( P 0. 05). Conclusion Mutation of EGFR gene in patients with small cell lung cancer is closely related to gender,histological type and differentiation degree.
