Cell therapy for HIV/AIDS

GUO Lianying;ZHANG Ting;QU Zhenyun;Department of Pathophysiology,Dalian Medical University;
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)is one of risky chronic infectious diseases caused by human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection.Highly active antiretroviral therapy(HAART)can block the replication of HIV,but not clear the latent viruses.There is currently no cure for HIV/AIDS.Immune cells play important roles in the course of HIV infection and occurrence of AIDS.Cell therapy for HIV/AIDS is the transfer of cells with anti-HIV activities which are prepared through selection of cells expressing anti-HIV genes or through transfection of cells with anti-HIV genes or receptor genes followed by in vitro amplification.Cell therapy has synergistic effects with other therapy such as HAART and contributes to the cure of HIV/AIDS.The article reviewed the uses and effects of anti-HIV chimeric antigen receptor-expressing T cells(CAR-T),artificial T cell receptor T cells(aTCR T),and antigen-loaded dendritic cells(DCs)etc.in treatment of HIV/AIDS.
