Removing toluene from indoor air by TiO_2 anchored on active carbon fiber

Objective To study the purifying efficiency to low concentration of toluene by TiO_2 anchored on active carbon fiber(ACF).Methods The study on the combination of the absorption of ACF and photocatalytic degradation of titanium dioxide in a self-made small-scale environmental chamber has been conducted for the removal of low concentration of toluene,which was taken as model compound.The photocatalytic activities of self-made photocatalyst and marketable photocatalyst were compared.Results The cleaning efficiency of 3 mm ACF,3 mm ACF+UV and 3 mm ACF+TiO_2 were 43.91%,44.83%,44.52% respectively;the cleaning efficiency under UV of ground glass,3 mm and 5 mm ACF loading marketable photocatalyst and 3 mm ACF loading self-made photocatalyst were 17.44%,56.06%,63.27%,63.15% respectively.Conclusion ACF is a feasible loading material,which specification can influence the synergistic effect of absorption and photocatalysis;self-made photocatalyst has higher cost performance than marketable photocatalyst.
