Experimental study on growth in rats by feeding pitaya

Objective To investigate the effect of "Hylocereus polyrhizus"pitaya on Sprague Dawley( SD) rats. Methods Random grouping experiment designed by weight was used to evaluate the effects of " Hylocereus polyrhizus" pitaya. 80 SD rats( male and female in half) were exposed to pitaya( 0 g/kg,7. 5 g/kg,10 g/kg and 15 g/kg) by oral perfusion at gradient doses for thirty day respectively. Body weight,food intakes were measured every week. The haematological,biochemical parameters and organ coefficient were measured at the end of experiment,the histopathological examination was also performed. Results In the test period,the growth of each test group animal was good,the the growth of weight was normal by week,no obvious signs of poisoning,no animal died. The difference of normal blood routine indexes and the control group had no statistical significance( P 0. 05). There were no adverse effect observed,including body weight,food intake,food consumption,hematology,serum biochemistry,as well as histopathology. Conclusion There is no toxic signs of "Hylocereus polyrhizus"pitaya on SD rats.
