Determination of five disinfection by-products and six normal anions in water by ion chromatography

Objective To establish a gradient elution method for the simultaneous determination of five disinfection by-products( chlorite,bromate,chlorate,dichloroacetic acids( DCAA),trichloroacetic acids( TCAA)) and six normal anions in water by ion chromatography. Methods With a high capacity anion exchange column Ion Pac AS19 column and KOH as eluent the five disinfection by-products as well as fluoride,chloride,nitrite,nitrate,bromide and sulfate could be well separated and determined within 40 min by employing a concentration gradient. At the first 26 min the concentration of KOH was 8 mmol/L,and then the concentration of KOH was increased to 35 mmol/L at 26. 1 min. Then the concentration was decreased to 8 mmol/L at 36. 1 min and kept 4 min. Results Good relatives( r≥0. 997 4) and low detection limits were obtained. The method was applied to the detection of five disinfection by-products in water samples,the recoveries of spiked standard were 80. 9%-104. 7%,and the relative standard deviations were 0. 40%-5. 81%. Conclusion The method has characteristics of simple to determine,high sensitivity,good linearity. And five disinfection by-products and six normal anions could be determined accurately.
