Correlation between homocysteine level and fetal neural tube defects

Objective To explore the correlation between homocysteine( Hcy) level and fetal neural tube defects,and provide reference for preventing the occurrence of fetal neural tube defects. Methods 62 pregnant women diagnosed as fetal neural tube defected in our hospital from January 2016 to February 2018 were selected as the study group. 60 pregnant women with healthy fetus examined in our hospital during the same period were selected as control group. The serum folic acid,vitamin B12 and Hcy levels were detected of the two groups. The correlation between serum folic acid,vitamin B12,Hcy levels and fetal neural tube defects were analyzed by single factor and multiple factor logistic regression analysis. Results The levels of serum folic acid and vitamin B12 in the study group were( 28.05± 3.48) nmol/L,( 319.56± 90.26)pmol/L respectively.The levels of serum folic acid and vitamin B12 in the control group were( 29. 76 ± 3. 61) nmol/L,( 302.56±87.43) pmol/L respectively.There was no statistical difference between the two groups( P0.05).The serum Hcy level in the study group was( 10.86±0.92) μmol/L,higher than( 7.05±0.43) μmol/L in the control group,there was significant difference between the two groups( P0.05).Single factor analysis showed that fetal neural tube defects was related to serum Hcy level( P0.05),not related to age,gestational times,gestational weeks,weight,folic acid and vitamin B12 levels( P0.05).Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that Hcy10μmol/L was an independent risk factor for fetal neural tube defects( P0.05).Conclusion The level of serum Hcy in pregnant women is related to fetal neural tube defects.The higher the serum Hcy level,the greater the risk of fetal neural tube defects. It should be reduced the pregnant women Hcy level to prevent the occurrence of fetal neural tube defects.
