Advances in Protein Evaluation System of Feeds for Ruminants

The protein value of foods for ruminants was expressed earlier as crude protein(CP) or digestible crude protein(DCP).The limitation of these system became apparent as more knowledge about protein metabolism in the gastro-intestinal tract of ruminants accumulated.More new system,which based on the nitrogen metabolism of ruminants have been introduced in practice in many countries asa replacement for the CP or DCP system in 1970s.Some of the systems have already been updated since they first were introduced.This article reviewed the protein evaluation system of feeds for ruminants and analyses the merits and demerits of all kinds of new protein evaluation system.
