A Ten - year Retrospective Study on Injuries among the Residents of a Certain Area

Objective To comprehend the cause, distribution characteristic and laws of injury and to adopt effective preven-tion measures.Methods A retrospective study from 1990 to 1999 on injury among the residents of a town was conducted.Results Dur-ing the ten years, the incidence rate of injury was 659.59 per 100 000 (1824 people were injuried and 142 died ) . Mortality rate was 51.35 per 100 000, which ranked the fourth place in all causes of death. Sex ratio of injury was 1. 56: 1, and the difference of injury incidence was significant (P 0.01) . Sex ratio for mortality was 1.49:1 (P 0.05) . Conclusions Injury has become an important public health problem harmful to die people' s health. The directed prevention measures should be adopted according to niain causes of in-jury of different age groups so as to reduce loss of resident health and property caused by injury.
