Cost-effectiveness of fentanyl patch in treatment of moderate to severe pain in digestive tract tumors

Objective To investigate the cost-effectiveness of of fentanyl patch in treatment of moderate to severe pain in digestive tract tumors.. Methods A total of 81 patients with digestive tract tumors accompanied by moderate to serve pain at Weinan Central Hospital from January 2014 to December 2017 were selected and retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into the fentanyl group( 39 patients) and oxycodone group( 42 patients). Pain relief,the Karnofsky performance score( KPS) before and after treatment,the incidence of adverse reactions and cost-effectiveness were compared between the two groups.Results The pain relief rate was 92. 3% for fentanyl group after treatment and 90. 5% for the oxycodone group( P 0. 05). The KPS scores was higher in offentanyl group and oxycodone group before theatment than after the treatment( all P 0. 05). However,there was no significant difference in KPS scores between the two groups before and after treatment( P 0. 05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 28. 2% for fentanyl group,was obvious lower than 69. 0% of the oxycodone group( P 0. 05). The cost-effectiveness was higher in fentanyl group than in oxycodone group. Conclusion Fentanyl patch had equivalent efficacy in analgesia and quality of life improvement with the oxycodone group,with few adverse reactions and low cost,who should be administered according to patients' specific situation.
