The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the therapeutic effects of
Tetra-methylprazine(TMP),a chinese medcine,on acute hemorrhagic necrotizing
pancreatitis(AHNP)in rats,and it’s possible mechanisms.All rats were divided into 3
groups:shamoperation,AHNP untreated, and AHNP TMP treated.AHNP models were made in rat
byligation of duodenal loop with injection of 5%sodium taurocholate.Biochemical profiles
usedwere plasma TXB2,6-keto-PGF1α,lipidperoxide(LPO) and elastase inhibitory capacity
(EIC).Results of the study indicated that ratio of TXB2/6-keto-PGF1α,and LPO value were
muchelevated, EIC decreased after induction of AHNP,as compared with sham operative
rat.Treatment with TMP could lower the elevated TXB2/6-keto-PGF1αand LPO,and increaseEIC,
significantly(P 0.05).Pathologic examination of pancreas by light and electronmicroscopy was
much pronounced, and survival times were much prolonged in the TMPtreated groups than its in
untreated groups. In conclusion,TMP has therapeutic effects onAHNP in rats, and it might be due
to maintaining the balance between TXA2 and PGI2,scavenge oxygen free radical and
depressing elastase activity.
