A study on immunogenicity and expression of HLA-A, B, C, DR antigen in human fetal pancreas

The pancreata from 24 fetuses and 3 adults were stained by immunohistochemistry ABC method with monomorphic HLA- A, B, C, DR monoclonal antibodies. The number, morphology and distribution of the positive cells were counted and observed. The expression of HLA-A , B , C , DR antigen was dected mainly on dendritic and lymphoid cells. While along with the fetus growth, the number of positive cell was decreased, but the proportion of dendritic positive cell was increased gradually. This suggested that the morphology and function of HLA- A, B, C. DR positive dendritic cells in adult pancreas were more complete and mature than those in fetus, and that the immunogenicity of fetal pancreas may be more weak than that of adult pancreas. But there were still a number of HLA-A, B, C, DR antigens in fetal pancreas, the rejection of the fetal pancreas would be not less weak than that of adult pancreas.
