he levels of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R )were evaluated in the sera of 54 patients with chronicmyelogenous leukemia (CML ) with enzyme-linkedimmunosobent assay ( ELISA ). The rcsultsdemonstrated that the levels of sIL-2R in CML weresignificantly elevated as compared with normal age-matched controls. 27 CML patients in chronic phase and9 patients in accelerated phase had slightly higher serumsIL-2R levels (327. 41±51. 19 and 803 ±197. 86U/ml ,respectively) than controls. 18 CML patients withblastic crisis showed much higher serum sIL-2R levels( 2559 ±1022U/ml, P 0. 05). Furthermore , the seraof patients with CML biastic crisis after effective therapyshowed significantly decreased sIL-2R levels than thoseat initial diagnosis of blastic crisis and those at ineffectivetherapy. In 13 patients with CML blastic crisis(myeloid) the serum sIL-2R levels were corelated withthe absolute number of leukocytes or blasts in peripheralblood and in bone marrow. These results suggested that the serum level of sIL-2Ris a useful clinical indicator in monitoring differentphases of CML and the effectiveness of the treatment.
