amples of peripheral blood from 108 different blooddonors were investigated for the presence of human cy-tomegalovirus(HCMV) DNA with polymerase chain re-action (PCR).The results showed that HCMVs werepresent in 84 out of 108 blood donors,which reached apeak infection rate of 77.8%.In addition, the test ofspecificity and sensitivity on PCR showed the surtabilityof the PCR as a potential diagnostic tool,which mightsubstitute or compensate for routine methods.
