Improvement of Insect Resistance of Rice Restorer Line R299 and Evaluation of Its Hybrids

B2A68,harboring Cry2Aa~# gene introduced by gene engineering,as insect-resistant donor,and R299,a WA-type restorer line of three-line hybrid rice,as recipient,were crossed,backcrossed and self-pollinated in combination with marker-assisted selection,and B2A299,a stable insect-resistant line,was developed.The improved restorer line and its hybrids were identified on the insect resistance and evaluated on the yield and main agronomic traits in field conditions.The results showed that B2A299 and its hybrids were greatly improved in the resistance to rice leaf rollers in field.Its hybrid Fengyuan A/B2A299 was found to be superior to its counterpart Fengyuan A/R299 and the control hybrid Yueyou 9113 in comprehensive characters and grain yield.The development of the insect-resistant line B2A299 and its hybrids provided good materials for the insect resistance breeding.
